Rep. Negrete McLeod Calls On House Veterans Committee To Work Together Amidst VA Scandal

Press Release

Date: June 13, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Yesterday, during a hearing of the House Veterans' Affairs Committee, Rep. Gloria Negrete McLeod (D-Chino) called on fellow committee members of both parties to work together to focus on solving the delays in care at VA Hospitals across the nation.

"We have several doctors on this committee. As a policy committee, we should find out, how do we fix VA, not more recrimination," said Rep. Negrete McLeod during the committee hearing. "How do we move forward? No one should have to wait 40 days just to get an appointment, but we need to work with Loma Linda and the VA to improve care in the Inland Empire, not use the VA scandal to score political points."

A June 9th audit of the VA Hospital in Loma Linda revealed that new veteran patients must wait an average of 43 days to receive an appointment. In Southern California, Loma Linda has the lowest wait time for a mental health care appointment of 27 days.
